Admissions are open to post graduate degree courses at Department of Architecture and Planning
College of Engineering Trivandrum.
The Department of Architecture and Planning offers three post graduate courses. M. Arch. (Environmental Design), M. Arch. (Urban Design) and M. Planning (Housing). M.Arch. courses are approved by the Council of Architecture and M.Planning (Housing) course is approved by AICTE and ITPI.
Admission is open for candidates from all over India. Upto 10% seats in each specialisation are earmarked for the candidates sponsored by any Central/State Govt. and Public sector undertakings on a merit basis. Other reservations and Course fees are as per government of Kerala norms. GATE/ PGETA qualified students will be eligible for scholarships as per AICTE/ CoA norms. Semester 3 M.Arch (Urban Design) Studio: Local Area Planning and Design
Exploring "Playful Thrissur" through a Collaborative Studio Approach
The Semester 3 M.Arch (Urban Design) students at CET engaged in an exciting and dynamic studio project titled Playful Thrissur. This studio, under the leadership of Dr. Bejene S. Kothari, accompanied by faculties Ar. Prajitha ,Ar.Sruthi and Ar. Manna , focuses on Local Area Planning and Design, aiming to explore innovative and sustainable urban design strategies for the vibrant city of Thrissur.
The studio is being conducted in collaboration with the Thrissur Corporation, Kerala Institute of Local Administration (KILA), and a diverse group of experts and stakeholders. This partnership ensures a holistic approach to urban design, incorporating the perspectives of local authorities, academic leaders, and practitioners in the field. Adding an international dimension, the project has been developed as a collaborative studio with the Liveable Urbanism Studio of Cardiff University, led by Dr. Shibu Raman. Twenty undergraduate and postgraduate students from Cardiff University are actively participating alongside CET’s cohort of 18 M.Arch students, fostering cross-cultural learning and exchange of ideas.
With Interactive Session On 15th January 2025, the students engaged in an enriching session at the Department of Architecture and Planning, CET. The session featured discussions led by Dr. Shibu Raman and Dr. Manoj Kumar Kini, both of whom brought invaluable insights and expertise to the conversation.
Complementing the academic dialogue, a heritage walk was conducted by Ar. Sharat Sunder Rajeev, with his deep knowledge of Trivandrum's architectural and cultural heritage. The walk allowed students to experience firsthand the historical richness and urban fabric of Palace Complex, Fort area precinct - Trivandrum.
Students gained a nuanced understanding of liveable urbanism, local area planning, and the interplay of culture, history, and urban design. The Final Public Meeting is scheduled to be conducted later in January 2025, featuring the detailed design presentation and the handover of the Detailed Project Report (DPR).

As part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav , Smart cities mission, MoHUA, NIUA and leading academic institutions in India launched SAAR (Smart-cities and Academia towards Action and Research) on 5 th January 2022 as a joint initiative. Under the program, 15 premier Architecture & planning institutes of the country worked for a year with Smart Cities to document landmark projects undertaken by the Smart Cities Mission. SAAR came out with a compendium of 75 landmark urban projects in India across 47 Smart Cities to mark the 75th anniversary of India's independence with the idea to showcase the country's best practices and on-ground achievements.
Department of Architecture & Planning, CET was one among the premiere institutions who worked on the evaluation urban infrastructure projects done by Trivandrum & Kochi SMART city missions. Dr. Bejene Kothari, Dr. Priyanjali Prabhakaran, Prof. Lakshmi.S.R, Prof.Alok.S and several students from M.Planning ( Housing ) and M.Arch (UD) worked on the project. 4 technical papers prepared by the team as part of this project were included in the compendium released by NIUA at the 'National Youth Conclave', India's biggest youth summit, held at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi on March 13-14, 2023 with support from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MOHUA) and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports under the aegis of India's G20 presidency.
Rakhi.S of M. Arch (UD) 2021-23 batch presented the paper on 'Marine Drive Walk way NMT project (Urban Beautification), Kochi while rest of the projects were exhibited as posters at the venue. The participating colleges were felicitated with a memento while the students were given certificates of participation.
